Description
An ideal breeding tank height is between 20-30 cm. If breeding is not the goal, a 60 cm (23 inches) water column is perfectly fine. A lidless tank is fine if there is a gap of at least 8 cm (3.14 inches) at the top. Blue Gouramis have a labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe atmospheric air.
Sparkling, croaking, honey and dwarf gouramis can be kept in tanks as small as 10 gallons, while a 30-gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for pearl, blue, gold, opaline and moonlight gouramis, as well as paradise fish. Kissing gouramis get to be quite large and will need a 55-gallon tank or larger when full size.
Preferred Water Chemistry: Tropical fresh water. Temperature 22 to 28 degrees Celsius (72 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit), pH 6.0 to 8.0, hardness 70 to 250 ppm.
