Description
Seachem De-nitrate – 500 ml
Seachem De-nitrate is a porous biological filter medium that provides surfaces for beneficial bacteria to colonise. Its structure supports aerobic nitrification and, under suitable low-flow conditions, anaerobic denitrification to help manage nitrate as part of an established aquarium-maintenance routine.
Product Information
- Brand: Seachem
- Pack volume: 500 ml
- Media type: porous biological filtration medium
- Filtration role: supports bacterial processes involved in ammonia, nitrite and nitrate management
- Listed flow limit for denitrification: no more than 200 L/h through the media
Placement and Setup
- Follow the current package instructions for preparation and the quantity required for your aquarium.
- Place in a compatible filter or media chamber where water passes through the media rather than bypassing it.
- For nitrate-reduction use, keep flow through the media within the listed 200 L/h limit. Flow at the media may differ from the pump's advertised maximum output.
- Allow time for bacterial colonisation. New media does not provide instant biological filtration or immediate nitrate reduction.
Monitoring and Maintenance
Test ammonia, nitrite and nitrate regularly, especially after adding media or changing filter arrangements. Results depend on bacterial establishment, flow, aquarium loading and other system conditions.
- Keep the media free of excessive debris without unnecessarily disturbing established bacteria, following the manufacturer's cleaning guidance.
- Avoid replacing all established biological media at once.
- Continue appropriate feeding, stocking, mechanical filtration and regular water changes.
De-nitrate is not a substitute for aquarium cycling or routine water-quality monitoring. Nitrate reduction is not guaranteed in every setup; confirm application requirements against the current package.
